Anyone can contribute docs: encourage users to write down what they have learned as a new doc
What
Add button within docs to allow customers/users/ourselves to add a new note. This might be something they have learnt, a new documentation page, very rough notes on something or knowledge which might already be covered elsewhere but in their own words.
Why
Create a culture of sharing things as we learn them, and spread that culture to our customers so they can teach each-other as they learn. As a step beyond transparency we would aim to write down things we've learnt with a low barrier to sharing.
Context
This is something I suggested during the summit knowledge-sharing UGC session. "Share everything you learn" is sort of my personal philosophy, but not something I currently do enough of.
It was mentioned that customers are using comments on existing docs to share things, but that we could do more to encourage sharing. Also mentioned was that sometimes knowledge on how to diagnose unusual customer problems is limited to an individual who has seen that problem before.
It is my belief that if we each felt obliged to spend time writing down things when we learn them we save time as a community.
