Conduct a UX research on GitLab installation process
Background:
We need to find out what kind of experience users of various level of expertise have when they set out to install GitLab.
What questions are you trying to answer?
- When user lands on GitLab homepage, how easy is it to find the installation page
- Once on the installation page, how simple is it for user to find what they are looking for or make a decision
- When they decide to go through installation, what is their experience with the information presented.
- Is the documentation referenced throughout the process that can aid them in making a decision
Are you looking to verify an existing hypothesis or uncover new issues you should be exploring?
Both. We spent some time simplifying both the installation page and the installation process but now we need structured feedback from people unfamiliar, somewhat familiar and familiar with GitLab.
What is the backstory of this project and how does it impact the approach?
See previous.
What do you already know about the areas you are exploring?
We know that setting up TLS certificates for HTTPS is not simple for new users and is one of the tasks we are working on.
What does success look like at the end of the project?
User installs GitLab within couple of minutes and has enough information to continue upgrading and maintaining GitLab in future.
