Guidelines for translating the form of address into different languages
Background:
While translating in to german, I stumbled upon the usage of you. There are two meanings in german, which depends on the environment it is used. The formal translation would be Sie it is used in companies or in polite way (e.g. younger to older person). The other one is Du which is used in personal speech, like under colleagues or friends.
In general the Du leads to a friendlier speech and gives the software an personal touch, but it could be argued about in a professional environment.
Maybe this is also valid for other languages.
