Add Service Desk with Email to CE
"Service Desk" (gitlab-org/gitlab-ee#149) has been released for EEP in 9.1 (https://about.gitlab.com/2017/04/22/gitlab-9-1-released/#service-desk-eep). Congratulations for this work ! I am perhaps dreaming: could this nice feature be one day available in CE ? This could be a killer feature for FOSS projects.
EEP is targeted to "global organizations who need a solution for remote teams, premium support" (and even with "more than 750 potential users"). Giving the ability to users to report issues to developpers seems to me fundamental for any small project... and even for projects with a single developper. @primeghost, while creating #18067 (closed), said:
I use Gitlab for coding for myself and for open source. (...) The Benefit would be a Ticket-System where any non-user of gitlab can contribute to an project.
On our side, we are 6 people in a university lab developing open-source bioinformatics software. We interact by email with some of our (non-technical) users, and often create issues based on their mail. We were interested in #18067 (closed), or by using "New issues by email" with a fake account... but the new "Service Desk by Email" feature would clearly fit our needs.
