authentication from Git command line via https with username & password fails after migrating to gitlab-ce 9.0.0 from 8.17.3. Authentication via ssh with keys works as expected.

What is the current bug behavior?
git command line authentication via https url in config gets fatal with correct credentials.
What is the expected correct behavior?
git should push to master branch on gitlab repo.
