Replace HAML with Hamlit
Right now we're using HAML, which could very well be contributing to the time Views take to render for GitLab. I'd recommend replacing the haml processor we presently use with the Hamlit gem. There are a few caveats, in that it doesn't support every single thing in HAML, however they're all relatively minor. If we use them, it's likely they're used sparingly. Hamlit claims an up-to 8x speed improvement over the normal HAML gem, see the following benchmark:
I'm not entirely sure how to go about replacing haml-rails with Hamlit in the Rails app, but for such a potentially significant speed boost - assuming none of the missing features are major consequences to the project - this should be more than worth the effort.
I should note that hamlit-rails exists, but doesn't seem to be actively developed. We can look into using it, but again I'm not familiar with implementing this kind of thing.
Thoughts?
