Figma Dev Mode and DesignOps
Problem to solve
An announcement was made that Figma Dev Mode will become generally available (GA) on January 31. Link to announcement As integration with GitHub and Jira progresses, as a long-time customer who has been using GitLab for over 10 years, I'm requesting similar feature enhancements.
Proposal
-
Jira Integration Jira and Figma Integration Information
Figma Live Embed GitLab integration (gitlab#327706) has been mentioned, but Jira already supports this feature. If the design management feature is maintained, pursuing this should be considered valuable.
-
GitHub Integration Figma Community Plugin for GitHub
Similar to the Jira integration, this plugin links issues. Additionally, it connects pull requests and source code files (components). Linking components could be beneficial for organizations that are building design systems and design tokens. However, this might be an excessive feature for some users.
Use the plugin to…
- Link components in GitHub to components in Figma, so that when developers are implementing designs they know whether a component already exists in the codebase and which one to use.
- Link GitHub issues to Figma designs, so developers have all of the context needed to implement a design.
- Link GitHub pull requests to Figma designs, so that teammates can track implementation of a design.
- View linked GitHub files, issues, and pull requests in Figma for quick previews without context switching.
