git:// generates "The form contains the following errors"

When using the git:// protocol, GitLab EE will complain about the URL not being a proper one. This however is insane since I'm trying to transfer an old 8.1 or 8.2 GitLab CE project.

Version: latest stable from a docker container setup yesterday, works fine otherwise.
