Should warn ahead of read-only mode in the event of license expiry
I received the following email on the day of me EE license expiry:
Dear Chris Tonkinson,
We would like to inform you that your subscription <redacted> was renewed successfully on 07/23/2016. The subscription will have a new term of 12 months after the current term ends.
Thank you for your business!
As it happens, there was confusion somewhere in billing. This resulted in a perceived license expiry on 7/23. This morning I see:
The billing problem doesn't bother me (whether human or machine) nor does the idea that an expired license would kick GitLab into read-only mode.
The issue is that no human nor machine provided any advance warning that the system would degrade into read-only mode this morning. I got an email from our account rep last week asking if we'd like to renew, but otherwise, there was no indication such as
You have X days to renew your license or GitLab will become read-only or similar.
I would have expected a global alert, or an email from the system, or something.
