[meta] GitLab for projects without repo
Today, GitLab is organised around groups and projects. That is an organisation that makes sense for everyone. However, the entry page of a project is still geared towards providing access to the repository, even though you can have projects that have a different purpose altogether.
If we want to compete with e.g. project management tools we should give you the ability to go into the issue management side of GitLab faster, without requiring you to first visit the project and then click on boards or issues (this expands to wikis and other features we offer).
There are a few ways we can achieve this:
- make the project homepage more dynamic and configurable
- in projects without repository, we show you issues or boards by default (configurable)
- ?
We should also consider giving you the option to specify this already on project creation, with some preset things:
- all features
- just issues
- ?
