Indicate on the search page of versioned docs where the results come from and which search engine we use
Following the discussion in #1564 (comment 1408593685), it would be a good idea to indicate on the versioned docs search page where the results come from and which search engine we use.
For example, if you now go to https://docs.gitlab.com/16.0/search/?q=install%20gitlab, the results are from the latest docs, and if you click in any of the links, you go to the unversioned page. As a user, this might be confusing because I'd expect the results to be from the version I searched from. We used to have this implemented with Algolia, but we don't anymore.
Similarly, in the archives search, if you go to https://archives.docs.gitlab.com/15.9/search/?query=install%20gitlab, you get the results using the offline lunr.js search engine. This is different than Google search and it might also confuse our users.
Proposal
When you land on a versioned page (either main docs or archives), there should be a message under /search
that indicates which search engine is used, and point to https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-docs/-/blob/main/doc/search.md for further information.
An example of what this might look like:
- Google:
The following results are from Google Programmable Search and point to the latest version. For more information, see the GitLab Docs search engine documentation.
- Lunr:
The following results are from the Lunr.js search engine. For more information, see the GitLab Docs search engine documentation.
