usability test the "buckets" in the horizontal nav prototype
Results
We had to eliminate the question about the user's confidence, since many did not follow the instructions and continued clicking around until they found the correct page. The confidence question data is useless in these cases. However, for those who clicked a second time, we recorded their second click.
The lowest success rate questions were CI/CD minutes quota (Subscribe) at 10%, running GitLab runner behind a proxy (Install) at 20%, and generating a new SSH key pair (Use GitLab) at 20%. Our next step is in considering 1) is there a better location for this information? and 2) how would moving these areas of content impact the IA of the docs site?
We have some unanswered usability questions around the new navigation layout for the GitLab docs site.
- Will users know which section on the horizontal layout to click to find the content that answers their specific question?
- How confident are they in their selection?
