Docs home page improvements
I have some ideas for improving the docs home page (https://docs.gitlab.com/). These improvements require less scrolling from users, and add consistency with the rest of the docs site.
Here is a rough mockup of what the page would look like:
For reference, here is what the home page looks like now:
Summary of changes
-
Remove the Search box and put the Search field on the top toolbar, for consistency with the rest of the docs site.
-
Change the Get started with... title to GitLab Documentation.
-
If a user clicks the words GitLab Documentation, take them to https://docs.gitlab.com/ee/. (Nice to have, because we recently removed the Explore all docs link.)
-
Make icons smaller. They take up real estate that causes users more scrolling than needed. (We could potentially make the boxes slightly smaller as well, to aid with scrolling.)
-
Remove shadows from boxes. (Shadows are not Pajamas compliant.) (This mockup still includes the shadows.)
