Visual audit of button order and alignment in GitLab
Purpose
While we do have documentation for button order and positioning (alignment), the product is inconsistent in both.
Opportunity
I think there is an opportunity to increase the fidelity of the documentation, and specifically address different use cases and responsive behavior. For example, while right alignment is a common UX practice for modals, flows, and dialogs, does it make sense for forms where users are moving to the start of the next line? We can also consider placement through the lens of accessibility, where browser zoom could cause right aligned objects to be harder to find.
The ask
Please take a few minutes to comment with visuals of different button alignments in the product.
- Include one layout per comment
- Include both small and large breakpoint views in a single comment if the layout changes responsively
- Include a reference to where the layout was found (can be link, or simply where it was found if in GDK, etc.)
What to expect as a result
- Better documentation in Pajamas
- Design patterns represented in the UI kit
- A push to ensure existing layouts follow updated guidelines
