Pricing for Mac and Windows Shared Runners
Costs for Windows, and in particular Mac, is higher than Linux. For example, GitHub bills Windows at 2x, and Mac at 10x, that of Linux.
While I would initially like to offer a "promotional pricing period" for Mac/Windows runners to not be blocked on pricing changes, we will ultimately need to account for the dramatically increased costs of runner minutes on these platforms.
Let's use this issue to align on the pricing, and then the resulting technical changes to accomplish this.
Initial Proposal
Rather than charging a specific dollar amount, we could simply have these platforms consume additional minutes. This would still allow us to keep our pricing largely the same, with blocks of minutes sold and provided, but manage costs with users who would utilize these new platforms.
To mirror GitHub's pricing for now, it could be:
- Linux: 1 minute / compute minute
- Windows: 2 minutes / compute minute
- OS X: 10 minutes / compute minute
