Follow-up from "Updated docs for Merge Trains"
The following discussion from !29771 (merged) should be addressed:

@mikelewis started a discussion: (+2 comments) Is a 'ref' specific to Git, whereas a 'merge ref' is specific to GitLab? Is there anywhere we should be linking to for more basic information about this, or do we need to create an issue to better document it? (This problem is not introduced by this MR as I see their are prior references to refs in the doc.)
Also, I read the section that "each item takes the completed state of the previous (pending) merge ref, adds its own changes, and starts the pipeline immediately in parallel under the assumption that everything is going to pass."
But this note seems to indicate that this is not currently occurring in parallel. Is the content incorrect or perhaps just not sufficiently clear about what is happening in parallel in each case?
@cstasik indicated that we may indeed be able to further clarify the sequential vs. parallel documentation
