GitLab Jira integration docs make a confusing claim to "Smart commit" support
https://docs.gitlab.com/ce/user/project/integrations/jira.html
Contains the line: (emphasis added)
You can also use Jira’s Smart Commits directly from GitLab, as covered in the article How and why to integrate GitLab with Jira.
It links to two articles, neither of which provide information on how to use smart commits from gitlab.

It's possible I've missed something obvious, but as far as I can tell the Gitlab Jira integration does not directly support Smart Commits, and third party services are needed (e.g. not Jira or Gitlab).
Either:
- That line is referring to the use of third party plugins, in which case it's quite misleading.
- There is direct support, but it's not documented.
