Suggest the most popular fork of unmaintained projects
It can be very frustrating to discover a good project, fitting exactly your needs, but who seems unmaintained.
In this case, it often happens that the lead developer doesn't even read issues and we can not contact him/her.
In this kind of scenario, the best thing that we can do is to look for other forks, in particular the most popular of them.
So it can be useful to have a information message on the project page, explaining that the project is no longer maintained, among with a suggestion of one (or several) active fork(s), if there is some.
To be discussed:
What could define an unmaintained project?
Suggestion: A project could considered as unmaintained if the median date of the last 10 commits is older than 3 years ago. This avoids that fixing a typo in the readme in 5 years triggers the "maintained status".
What is an active fork?
Suggestion: First, we could look at the fork popularity (number of stars and sub-forks): for instance, at least 10 stars and 5 forks. Then, we must also look for the fork activity: for instance, the median date of the last 10 commits should be newer than 6 months ago.
If these two conditions are not fulfilled, the information message should not be displayed.
