Make GitLab The Most Popular Code Hosting + CI + Distribution for iOS Applications
Right now iOS developers need to string together a bunch of different tools to do their job well. GitLab is already a great solution for code hosting and CI (due to easy mac runner support) but we can make the offer even more compelling.
Here are some important steps we can take to get to be the most popular:
-
Write official (and up to date) docs for building iOS applications on GitLab CI -
iOS CI template, React Native CI template -
Beta app distribution with gitlab CI and artifacts and gitlab users/groups (similar tooling to HockeyApp but integrated) -
Zero configuration CI for standard iOS + React Native applications (like auto devops but for iOS) -
Provide mac runners on gitlab.com (perhaps needs to be a paid feature due to costs or maybe free for limited minutes) -
Wrap apples app store distribution tools with GitLab pages for integrated experience -
Bug reports automatically create gitlab issues: initially integration with bugsnag or similar, later create our own bug tracking tool -
When we have feature flags support we should ensure it works well and is integrated with our other iOS tools
