"Merge when build succeeds" doesn't work

This happens occasionally, not sure about the exact root cause, but we're stuck with merge requests looking like this after selecting "merge when build succeeds":

It remains at this steady state until I hit "cancel" and "merge" again.

This makes the entire merge-request-merging business very high maintenance...
