README text on project page gets too wide for readability
The Readme text on the project page doesn't have a maximum width, so it becomes too wide to easily read in fullscreen browser windows. A good rule of thumb for readability is 50–75 characters per line. You can see this convention in professionally typeset text and on modern text-oriented websites like Medium.
On my laptop, the Readme file currently displays almost 200 characters per line which makes it rather hard to read. Just setting a max-width
of, say, 75ex
makes the text easier to follow and makes it look more professional. Similar adjustments could be made elsewhere on the site (like issues) but the project page is especially important because it's the first thing visitors to my project will see. The Readme also doesn't have other UI elements involved, so the change is not particularly invasive.
Here are two illustrations of the current state and what it looks like with max-width : 75ex
. (max-width
is nice because it won't affect any windows which aren't too wide.) I'm sure there could be a bit more design put into it, but even just this single change is an improvement.
