Upgrade fails - Postgres internal migration problem when upgrading from omnibus 6.9 to the latest 8.X version
We have a CE installed from source that we wanted to upgrade to the latest 8.X version which in our case is version 8.5.6
We installed first another omnibus running instance on another server Backed up our instance, migrated the db by following the instructions here https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/blob/master/doc/update/mysql_to_postgresql.md and restored the backup to the new omnibus version. All of this went fine
Gitlab is using the embedded postgresSQL server
The we followed those instructions here http://doc.gitlab.com/omnibus/update/README.html to update the omnibus version to 8.5.6
Whil upgrading hat error came out and the upgrade aborted
Error executing action
run on resource 'bash[migrate gitlab-rails database]'
Mixlib::ShellOut::ShellCommandFailed ------------------------------------ Expected process to exit with , but received '1' ---- Begin output of "bash" "/tmp/chef-script20160420-26165-1afctot" ---- STDOUT: rake aborted! StandardError: An error has occurred, this and all later migrations canceled: PG::UndefinedColumn: ERROR: column issues.deleted_at does not exist LINE 1: SELECT "issues".* FROM "issues" WHERE "issues"."deleted_at"...
I did some research and found out that this might be the same issue as described here #15113 (closed) But this one is while using an external postgresSQL service
Is there an outcome to that issue ? Was it too much a steep upgrade ? Would it be feasible to add the missing column to the DB ?
Now i have an error 500 when i try to access gitlab, is there a way to revert back the upgrade or i just have to start the upgrade again when we have a resolution ?
