Design monitoring architecture (metrics, dashboards, alert definitions)

Context

Part of the Monetization Platform Modernization initiative to establish comprehensive observability across the monetization platform (CustomersDot-SFDC-Zuora).

Objective

Design and document the monitoring architecture that will provide real-time health visibility into the monetization platform, including metrics collection, dashboard design, and alert definitions.

Scope

  • Define key metrics for billing operations (transaction volume, latency, error rates, Zuora API health)
  • Design dashboard layouts for different personas (ops, engineering, leadership)
  • Define alert thresholds and notification channels
  • Document metric naming conventions and collection patterns
  • Plan integration with existing monitoring infrastructure

Success Criteria

  • Monitoring architecture document approved by ops and engineering leads
  • Dashboard templates created for critical system components
  • Alert definitions cover all P1/P2 failure scenarios
  • Architecture supports <30 second visibility into issues
  • Metrics collection pattern supports 100% of critical billing paths
