Create Snippets Syntax with Content Editor
Problem
Existing utility of snippet functionally in GitLab is limited and requires custom JavaScript to render content. Existing utility does not promote use of Snippets within content editor; adding usability within the Content Editor would enable users to more easily render code that is commonly utilized, increase their operational efficiency and speed to delivery which is a measurable point of ROI for customers of GitLab (Private snippet rendering in the Content Editor will not be included in the MVC).
Proposal
Add capacity for Snippets to be embedded in the content editor using a newly created syntax.
Public snippets will be prioritized over private in the MVC. Private snippets would require additional engineering time focused on security and snippet permissions.
Details
- Establish a proper syntax for pulling snippets into Content Editor.
- Refine feasibility of rendering only Public snippets in the Content Editor and excluding Private.
- Further iterations could include a button with the UI that has a drop down/search function for commonly used or all Snippets (both Public and Private if we are able to dig into permissions).
