The 17.0 major release is coming on May 16, 2024! This version brings many exciting improvements to GitLab, but also removes some deprecated features. We are introducing three breaking change windows during which we expect breaking changes to be deployed to GitLab.com. You can read more about it on our blogpost . This cleans up the README after the doc/production.md was modified.

Remove the database information from the README because:

it is not useful for all use cases of the cookbook (only applies to production, not to development)
it is already well explained at doc/production.md

Move the monitoring HOWTO to doc/production.md because:

it is not useful for all use cases of the cookbook (only applies to production, not to development)
it fits well with the other options described there such as "Enabling HTTPS", all of which describe extra options that are relevant to production installation / usage.
