Reorganize installation instructions in the Readme
Problem to Solve
As part of the work for distribution there were several discussions about which installation channels should remain "officially" supported and which would continue to be maintained by the community. This also brought up discussions about how we should re-organize the installation methods to drive supported channels and branch out documentation for other distribution methods.
Proposal
We should look for opportunities to streamline the documentation for the CLI around installation. Some proposals:
- Leave all the installation options in the main README documentation
- Pick one macOS, Windows and Linux option as "primary" to have in the README - move all other options to
/docs/installation/*
Additional Details
One benefit to the second approach is that we may be able to start setting up documentation that's for consumption in the main docs.gitlab.com
site and refine the command based documentation to only be available via --help
on the CLI.
