UPGRADE FAILED: "production" has no deployed releases

We are getting the following error:

Error: UPGRADE FAILED: "production" has no deployed releases

I've been trying to fix it without deleting the release, but haven't had any luck. I've logged an issue upstream with helm for some assistance: https://github.com/helm/helm/issues/4387
