Update the documentation for the initial login - domain name
Summary
Coming from the notes during the CM Scorecard session, https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-design/-/issues/1662#note_689284413 @mnielsen
Relevant user reaction could be found here in the Dovetail (internal)
Current behavior
The documentation for initial login states:
You can access the GitLab instance by visiting the domain specified during installation. The default domain would be gitlab.example.com, unless the global host settings were changed.
This is valid, but perhaps we could make this more clear. The participant was attempting to access the application at $IP.nip.io
rather than gitlab.$IP.nip.io
.
Expected behavior
We could potentially adjust this section to state something like:
You can access the GitLab instance by visiting `gitlab.DOMAIN`, where `DOMAIN` is the value provided under `global.hosts.domain`.
For example, if you configured `global.hosts.domain=mydomain.com`, you would access GitLab at `gitlab.mydomain.com`.
NOTE:
This URL will be different if the [global host settings](https://docs.gitlab.com/charts/charts/globals.html#configure-host-settings) were changed.
