DRI Shadow

Purpose

This issue tracks your progress toward becoming a weekly triage DRI (Designated Responsible Individual) for the Build team.

Process Overview

  1. Preparation Phase

    • Complete required reading and documentation review
    • Join necessary Slack channels and enable notifications

  2. Active Shadowing Phase

    • Monitor Pipelines: Here
    • Observe Slack channel responses from current DRI
    • Practice independent analysis and compare with DRI responses
    • Discuss questions asynchronously with current DRI
    • Identify and implement documentation improvements when necessary

  3. Transition Phase

    • Check-in after 2 shadow cycles to assess readiness
    • Continue shadowing if needed
    • When ready, update rotation schedule

Preparation Tasks

  • Complete team member onboarding
  • Join and enable notifications for all these Slack channels:
    • (list of slack channels apt for Build Team)
  • For pipeline triage in #distribution-alerts:
    • (list of pre existing docs needed for the Build team)
  • For Slack channel monitoring in ##g_distribution and #distribution-alerts:
    • Review issue-tracker automation to understand how Slack questions become issues
    • Review past 5 requests in each channel to get familiar with the process
  • Note your upcoming shadow schedule in the [DRI Schedule] (we need to put the apt link for this)
  • Optional - before your first rotation, feel free to schedule meetings with the DRI
    • Beginning of the week: Discuss expectations, ask initial questions, clarify any aspects of the shadowing process
    • End of the week: Discuss how the week went, review any general questions or topics that arose during the week
    • Note: These meetings are not mandatory but can be valuable for synchronous discussions and immediate feedback. Schedule them based on your needs.

Shadow Rotation Tasks

The shadow process is designed to be asynchronous, allowing you to complete tasks at your own pace. However, if you need additional support or have specific questions, feel free to schedule a meeting with the current Triage DRI.

Improvement Opportunities

  • Take notes on potential improvements to:
    • Shadow process documentation
    • Triage processes
    • Team documentation
  • Discuss improvement ideas with current Triage DRI
  • Implement improvements based on discussions

Progress Check-ins

  • After 2 shadow cycles: First readiness assessment
  • A Reverse Shadow for a Week with the DRI on the process.
  • Decision point:
    • Schedule additional shadow cycles if needed
    • Begin process to become Triage DRI
