7. Group similar work across projects with epics

Answer the project management stats question!

  • 1. Navigate to the "Overmatch Product" > "Microservice" project
  • 2. Click Plan > Issues > New issue
  • 3. Name the issue "Story MS1", set a weight for the issue (anything between 3 and 21 will work) click Create issue
  • 4. Repeat this process for "Story MS2", "Story MS3"
  • 5. Navigate to the "Overmatch Product" > "Web Client" project
  • 6. Create 3 issues in the project, using the process above, named: "Story WC1", "Story WC2", and "Bug WC3", respectively
  • 7. Navigate to the "Overmatch Product" group
  • 8. Click Plan > Epics > New epic
  • 9. Name the epic "Overmatch Redesign"
  • 10. Set the Start date and End date to May 1 and May 31, respectively
  • 11. Click Create epic
  • 12. Add the "Web Client Redesign" issue to this epic by clicking Add > Add an existing issue under Child issues and epics
  • 13. In the Paste issue link or <#issue id> field: type "#web", which should give you an autocomplete option for "Web Client Redesign", press enter and click Add
  • 14. Add "Story MS1" and "Story WC1" to the epic using the same method
  • 15. Notice the epic, issue, and weight counts under the Child issues and epics section
  • 16. Create a second epic named "Overmatch Feature 2", set the Start and End dates to 30 days ago and today respectively
  • 17. Add the "Story MS2", "Story MS3", "Story WC2", "Bug WC3" issues to the "Overmatch Feature 2" epic
  • 18. On the "Overmatch Feature 2" epic, add a link to the "Overmatch Redesign" epic: Click Add under Linked epics, select is blocked by and type "&1" in the Paste epic link or <&epic id> field. Click Add
  • 19. Navigate to the "Overmatch Product" group's roadmap via Plan > Roadmap
  • 20. Observe the timeline view and epic completion by weight
  • 21. We are now going to create a parent epic to encapsulate a capability for the product. Navigate the to "Overmatch Product" group, click Epics
  • 22. Click New epic, name it "Overmatch Capability C1", and click Create epic
  • 23. Add the "Overmatch Redesign" and "Overmatch Feature F2" epics as children: Under Child issues and epics click Add > Add an existing epic.
  • 24. In the Epic link field, type & to start autocompletion, and select both epics. Click Add
  • 25. Navigate back to Epics > Roadmap. Notice the folded epic view, and the blocker icon on "Overmatch Feature 2"
