Unable to add my private ssh key to the secret variable

I am trying to add my private key in Secret Variables, but I am getting an error. The form contains the following error: Key can contain only letters, digits and '_' I believe most of the private keys will contain characters other than the above mentioned. Am i missing anything? Advice. Thanks.
