Realign security team related slack channels: #security-team, #security-general, #security-team-standup
This is one idea for managing the traffic due to the increase in size of the Security Team by creating a new public channel, #security-team-plaza, for asking questions/having discussions pertaining to daily work.
The Geekbot standups remain useful, but overwhelm non-standup questions and discussions now due to the size of the team. Many other teams have already moved their standups to a separate channel for this reason.
We should be trying to achieve a public place organized around our internal to GitLab work. We are not a category/group/section, so simply
#security-team as a public channel.
Looking at the recent traffic to
#security, there has been a lot of posts of non-GitLab related security news stories and one or two requests that would be better redirected to the new #security-team channel, similar to questions we take to #infrastructure-lounge. This channel can be renamed to #security-general to reflect it's current usage.
For a minimal iteration:
- Keep the stand ups in the current channel. Rename it to #security-team-standup
- Create a new public channel #security-team.
- Rename #security to #security-general as a general security related discussion channel and update the purpose and topic to point team members to the new channel. This of course is not to be strictly enforced, and operational teams should continue to monitor both.
