new jobs page
Background
A while back, @brendan wrote this on Slack:
It would be nice (if we don’t have it already and I missed it) to have a “GitLab intro email” that is focused on hiring, our values, why people would want to work for us, etc. Something like the sales email intro we offer to investors (https://about.gitlab.com/handbook/sales/#email-intro) but more people ops focused. Does that make sense? This is close: https://about.gitlab.com/jobs/#why-work-for-gitlab but maybe a little more detail?
This resonated with me in a big way. I've had a handful of conversations with ex-colleagues and friends who are interested in GitLab, but I struggled to provide them with a really awesome summary of why someone might want to join and work with GitLab.
In my view, we have a lot of great material - but it's fragmented across our handbook and our blog. I really want something I can share with folks that summarizes all the great things about being at GitLab.
Later, I started thinking that the most appropriate place for this was the Jobs page. This is a link that probably gets a fair bit of traffic, and it makes sense to try and sell viewers on why GitLab is awesome if they're thinking about possibly applying.
This MR
Here, I'm submitting a concept for a new jobs page. It's rough and needs a lot of massaging, but I think this is starting to move in a direction that shows off our culture a bit better. It provides some highlights, some pictures, and the opportunity to click into our culture page and a couple of blog posts that show off some more cool parts of GitLab.
There's plenty more work here (including finding places for the jobs content that I've removed, like hiring guidelines and so forth; getting the copy right; adding the culture video back in; improving the styling; adding a container/label for the Lever listings), but this should be a good starting point to start collaborating
To-do
-
Find a place for hiring guidelines and our "no recruiters/agencies" language -
Copy pass to make sure we're on brand and all the items make sense. -
Add links where it makes sense (e.g. CREDIT, summits, etc) -
Add the GitLab summit video back in (possibly on RHS of header) -
Styling cleanup pass: make a CSS file for the page, don't use random inherited CSS, don't do inline styling -
Add a container/label in the Lever listings area and make this nicer -
More pictures: possibly add them to the header background -
Add more on the team/where we're at (team section in the Wix is cool) -
Add a "Open positions" button in the header that jumps you right to the jobs listings -
Reduce image sizes -
Swap first picture out since it's now redundant with the video thumbnail -
Job listings are too wide, need to be in a container. -
Style, edit copy, and add links to the team map copy section. -
Fix breakpoints for mobile.
