FY20-Q4 Ops Section OKR: Identify and engage at least one internal candidate for dogfooding => 55%
Objective
In an effort to make a popular next-generation product, we would like to identify and engage at least one internal team per stage.
Key results
- Identify at least one internal customer.
=> 100% Identified Infrastructure team to use monitoring features
- Develop requirements for this customer.
=> 50%
- Create a plan for their needs.
=> 20%
Retrospective
Good
- Team identified viable customers for several monitoring categories (metrics, error reporting, incident management)
- Created a lot of awareness within the product group that dogfooding monitoring is high priority/urgent.
- Improved collaboration across groups on this effort (e.g. good dialog between Ops section and Infra members.
Bad
- At points efforts bogged down and group had trouble moving past sticking points. e.g. time debating whether you can monitor production with production (you can't)
- Lack of visible progress at points resulted in frustration from some stakeholders
Try
- Continue to emphasize the importance of dogfood monitoring and tie it to team/individual goals
- Focus on incremental migration (e.g. migrate 10 dashboards, one after another...)
- Focus on meaningful use cases (e.g. SLA dashboard, general dashboard)
- Establish a status reporting cadence to clearly communicate progress and blockers
