Impact of homepage update on free trial click-through rate
I'm concerned with clickthrough rate for our homepage CTAs and it's impact on our free trial submissions.
Problem
The number of daily clicks from our homepage to /free-trial/
dropped after our recent update. We averaged 198 self-managed trial submissions other Wednesdays in August, with only 72 trial requests 28 Aug.
The homepage CTA Try GitLab for Free
also dropped 30% from Tuesday 27 Aug to Wednesday 28 Aug. This is also a significant drop compared to our average Wednesday this month.
We've also seen a drop in clickthrough and conversion for the /demo/
CTA on our homepage.
Solution to test
Move CTA buttons from under the video thumbnail. I'd like to try above the thumbnail as a first test, but open to other suggestions.
We've also seen animated assets attract extra attention in the Just Commit campaign, so it'd be great if we could test clickthroughs with a static video thumbnail.
Still investigating
/free-trial/
was also updated 8/22 and self-managed trial requests have dropped since the change. I'm working on...
- finding metrics to discover how the
/free-trial/
change has impacted SaaS trial requests - how change to the homepage have impacted SaaS trials
