Making product demo easier to access
Description
Problem
On https://about.gitlab.com/demo/. We request potential new users to register first to watch a demo of the product. The demo is a great way to advertise our product features and we're making it harder to access. Potential new users could access the same type of content with less “friction” on Youtube for example. Making the demo easier to access could help in decision making and perhaps generate more leads, hypothetically speaking.
Proposal
I presume the form is handy to collect and generate leads for marketing/sales team, in this case why not letting potential users watch few minutes of the demo (letting them know in advance that it's a x minutes preview) and then trigger the registration form?
Benefits
- Potential increase in viewed demo, leading to a higher rate of qualified prospect.
- Remove the "registration wall" effect, therefore content feels easier to access, easier to act upon.
- Solve a potential interaction design problem (Clicking a CTA with a play button should trigger a video as mentioned by a community member here)
- Support our Transparency value.
