Blog Post: Preparing for a GitLab Migration to SaaS
Triage (REQUIRED)
Please note that there is a different process for when you want to announce something via the blog. Please see announcement requests in the handbook and open an announcement request issue instead of a blog post issue.
Proposal
Follow on to this post:
- Will edit and use the first half of this video that I previously created: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L11mZqQKuwo and provide a summary of the highlights
The goal is to give customers practical tips whether they are using one of the ui options for migration or preparing for a Professional Services migration, including:
- user mapping/management for migration
- understanding what data gets migrated and what doesn't
- preparing runners
- identifying large projects that might have difficulty migrating
- working with individual project leads to identify areas that will need updating post-migration, including:
- url references to projects, pipelines, registries
- secrets that do not get migrated
- integrations that need to be re-established
- effective change management and communication with impacted users
