Introduction

This training module provides Support Engineers on the US Government Support team with the path to gaining access to the various systems for Dedicated for Government.

Goals

At the end of this module, you should be able to:

• Access CompSecGov and know when to access CompSecGov
• Connect to the VPN and then access Grafana or OpenSearch
• Know where to get additional help

Stage 0: Create Your Module

1. Create an issue using this template by making the Issue Title: <module title> - <your name>.
2. Add yourself and your trainer as the assignees.
3. Set milestones, if applicable, and a due date to help motivate yourself!

Consider using the Time Tracking functionality so that the estimated length for the module can be refined.

Stage 0.5 What is GitLab Dedicated for Government?

• Read the SaaS, Self-Managed and Dedicated Troubleshooting tables to understand the difference between GitLab Dedicated for Government and other ways of deploying GitLab
• Read the GitLab Dedicated Overview understanding that some things will differ between commercial and government
• Read about Filing issues to understand how Requests for Help RFHs work with GitLab Dedicated for Government

Stage 1: FedRAMP Onboarding

• Done with Stage 1

Note: Identity verification during the hiring and onboarding process of US Gov support members should suffice for portions of the AR.

1. Open a FedRAMP Onboarding issue in the FedRAMP Certification project
2. Assign the issue to yourself and Nick Bennet
3. Nick will assign trainings and request confirmations

Stage 2: Access to Resources

1. • With Stage 1 complete, log in to the FedRAMP OKTA instance
2. • Log in to CompSecGov
3. • Notify Kasey or Wade that you have logged in and need access to the Government Support group
4. • Open an Access Request for access to the 1Password vault for Dedicated for Government
5. • Set up the AppGuard VPN as described in the Support Materials project
6. • With the VPN connected, use the credentials from the GitLab Dedicated for Government - Support 1Password vault to login in to Grafana and OpenSearch.

Final Stage

1. Manager: schedule a call (or integrate into 1:1) to review how the module went once you have reviewed this issue.
