[APAC] Team members can locate themselves on the map of performance, and where they could go next
Proposal
Create a map of performance, along with support engineer journals combining different Support activities depicting performance at different levels.
What is the purpose of this proposal?
All Support team members will be able to identify where they are on their performance journey, and what paths they can take if they want to explore different destinations to achieve their goals.
Why are we proposing this?
Feedback from Support Engineers in APAC shared that the flexibility to be productive in a way which plays to their strengths, results in uncertainty over how well they are (or feel they are) doing, and whether others in the team find their performance levels acceptable.
Map of Performance
Using this free tool, Inkarnate, I created an initial working draft of the Map of Performance: https://inkarnate.com/m/3ElNW6-mop1/ I invite you all to take a look and play around. You can create a copy and tweak this version, or even start from scratch and create your own. I'll be scheduling a workshop where I'll be sharing my screen and asking for your contributions about how this should look.
APAC Office Hours Let's Build It Workshop Thursday 2023-03-16 at 04:15 UTC
During the session, we'll screen share and build it together. Please add to the agenda if there are any questions about this work you want answered.
Preparation for the workshop
- Access Inkarnate and review the different map styles. You can create a login to explore the free version or navigate to the gallery and view the examples provided.
- Pick the Style that resonates with you the most and describe your journey on that map.
- OPTIONAL: Create a map of your own and share with the group, post a link below.
Support Engineer Journals
-
Combining elements of the Performance Factor Descriptors and metrics found in the Support Handbook, I hope to document variations of different activities that will demonstrate what performance looks like at the following levels:
-
Exceeding -
Performer, wanting to Exceed -
Performer -
Performer, wandering into the forest -
Lost in the forest -
Underperformer
-
-
Create a narrative journey of a traveller on the Map of Performance, which will demonstrate how the map of performance can be applied.
-
STORY OF Mop - the performer who ended up in the forest and found the Guide's Outpost, who helped them discover their path back to village, etc.
-
-
Create Handbook references to illustrate how this tool could be utilised to identify where you are on your own journey, or to support growth and development discussion with your manager.
