Process to free e-mail in inacccessible account
In gitlab-com/www-gitlab-com!72227 (merged) we increased the standard of proof for data legislation driven account deletion to be on the same level as resetting 2FA and regaining access to the account.
Previously, many account deletion issues were actually users using this process to free up their preferred email address for re-use on GitLab.com.
Appropriate to the intention of privacy legislation or not, this is clearly something that our users are interested in having:
If I lose access to my account I cannot reregister an account on GitLab.com without using a different email.
I'd like for this story to not be true; through automation, process or product.
