Set up Redash data source for gitlab.com
tl;dr
Set up new data source for Redash to point to GitLab database at db1.staging.gitlab.com
.
Background
Redash has already been set up for version.gitlab.com. The results have been great. We can now see overall EE usage for different versions of GitLab, as well as active usage statistics for individual features: http://redash.gitlab.com/dashboard/usage. This is actionable insight as it helps us prioritize features and strategize where to push further for our EE users.
Can we set up a new data source for the database at db1.staging.gitlab.com. This database is a mirrored version of gitlab.com (refreshed every few weeks or months). Since it is a GitLab EE database, we can do much more detailed analysis (albeit only for gitlab.com users) here. This analysis serves as a proxy of what goes on in the EE on-prem world. Analysis in this area would help us determine what additional data to collect in the usage pings of EE, as mentioned in https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/issues/25288#note_21323311.
