2021-06-11 Bad gateway on GitLab.com
Current Status
For approximately 2 minutes, all GitLab services experienced errors due to a cloud provider maintenance event on one of the Postgres read replicas.
Around the time of the maintenance, we see a large spike in IO wait which increased the load on the replica:
The IO wait was due to an increase in read (and write) latency on disk:

Corrective Actions
Corrective actions should be put here as soon as an incident is mitigated, ensure that all corrective actions mentioned in the notes below are included.
- Support high availability for database load balancing https://gitlab.com/gitlab-com/gl-infra/infrastructure/-/issues/13540
- Add visibility for live migrations of VMs https://gitlab.com/gitlab-com/gl-infra/infrastructure/-/issues/13304
- Hook onto GCP instance maintenance events https://gitlab.com/gitlab-com/gl-infra/infrastructure/-/issues/12804
