Problem: Since August 22nd, there has been an increase in Arkose Verification failures on GitLab.com, resulting in users being stuck in a challenge loop during account verification or when enabling GitLab pipelines.

Impact: This issue primarily affects new users and those enabling GitLab pipelines for the first time, preventing them from verifying their accounts or accessing key features.

Causes: The increase in verification failures and subsequent user challenge loops began to be observed on August 22nd.

Response strategy: The incident has been escalated, relevant teams have been notified, and a support case raised with our vendor.
