500 errors during SAML Callback in GitLab.com (Severity 2 (High))

Problem: Users from different namespaces in GitLab.com are experiencing 500 errors during SAML callback, with the incident beginning around July 10 at 9:00 UTC.

Impact: At least 25 namespaces and over 6 users are unable to log in via group SAML, significantly hindering access to GitLab.com.

Causes: The issue is due to an unhandled audit event type in audit logging during the SAML authentication callback, linked to recent updates in compliance violation detection and audit event processing.

Response strategy: The feature flag enable_project_compliance_violations was disabled, which has so far stopped the errors.
