2025-05-15: Critical Chef client failures in gprd environment due to configuration error
Critical Chef client failures in gprd environment due to configuration error (Severity 3)
Problem: Over 65% of chef-client runs in the gprd environment are failing due to an issue with the Fluentd APT repository. Impact: This failure affects the convergence of chef-client nodes in the gprd environment, specifically on machines running Ubuntu Focal. Causes: The failure is caused by an unexpected file size in the package index file from the Fluentd APT repository, likely due to a mirror sync problem upstream. Response strategy: We have temporarily disabled this repository across our environment to allow chef to converge, and created appropriate follow up issues to deal with the short term and long term management.
