2023-06-14: GitLab.com signup and group creation down due to group visibility error

Customer Impact

Users cannot signup for gitlab.com for a free or trial account.

Also impacting existing users who want to create group for trial.

Current Status

If a user attempts to signup for gitlab.com when directed to create a group it throws an error that the group visibility cannot be Internal. Previously all signups were defaulted to having a group with a private visibility.

Upon reviewing the gitlab.com admin settings it appears the default group visibility value has changed to Internal.
