Examine HAProxy zonal fleets to mitigate capacity shortfalls from a zonal degredation
During a recent HAProxy focused zonal outage practice (or Game Day), we disabled the flow of a single zones traffic through HAProxy to measure the effect on remaining zones. HAProxy is effectively stateless and we could scale up the three zones we operate in to make sure that during a zonal collapse, the remaining zones could handle peak traffic loads without intervention to scale.
-
Devise a method to measure the existing peak throughput of the HAProxy zonal fleets. -
Estimate the volume of traffic that would need to be handled by a zone if it were to take on half the load from a disabled zone. -
Compare to our existing fleets and calculate a rough estimate of the increase required so we can compare the cost to other options.
