Clarify when GitLab team members should use the sre-oncall Slack handle
Current Situation
It is not clear for GitLab team members outside of Infrastructure on when to contact/interupt the EOC via the @sre-oncall
handle in Slack in the production and incident-management channels.
Desired Outcome
It should be clear in a concise section of the handbook(perhaps in an extension to this section) when to interupt the EOC via the @sre-oncall
handle in Slack. This section should also be linked in the production and incident-management channels.
Situations where a GitLab team member should use the @sre-oncall handle in Slack:
- Declaration of an incident
- Needing assistance in stopping deployments (ex: bug found in staging and a developer wishes to halt future deploys, this can also be accomplished via a self-service incident declaration of an severity2 incident.)
- etc.
Acceptance Criteria
-
MR is created -
MR is reviewed and merged -
Link to this new section is posted in the production and incident-management channels as part of the channel topic.
