Lower the global repository limit to 20GB on gitlab.com
What are we going to do?
Lower the global repository limit from infinite to 20GB. We will do this in stages to limit customer impact as much as possible.
TBD: I am proposing a two step approach instead of going immediately to 20GB.
-
Notify affected users of the update via email that will be lowering the limit -
Notify support of the change -
Lower repository limit to 20GB
Why are we doing it?
The global repository limit was disabled due to a performance regression, we are lowering the repository limit to the advertised values.
When are we going to do it?
- Friday, 2018-06-29: Send out e-mail to affected repo owners
- Friday, 2018-07-06: Enact the 20GB limit
How are we going to do it?
Through the admin panel.
How are we preparing for it?
There was customer notifications sent awhile ago in https://gitlab.com/gitlab-com/migration/issues/256
We may want to do another round of notification.
Impact
Users will unable to push their repositories if they are over the 20GB limit.
How are we communicating this to our customers?
- Update on twitter, also notify users?
What is the rollback plan?
Change it back in the admin panel.
