Team Core Infra FY21-Q4 OKR Conversation
Summary
Our Department's FY21-Q4 OKRs are being captured in gitlab-com/www-gitlab-com#8434 (closed). OKRs fall under 3 categories:
- (IACV): Continually improving spend efficiency for GitLab.com
- (Product): SaaS Reliability Improvements
- (Team): Improve Infrastructure influence and accessibility
Our Team's Focus
In FY21-Q4, we have a few ideas around internal improvements balancing with a few external asks. We want to continue to simplify our footprint in the various cloud providers we use. We also want to make a meaningful change in secrets management.
Objective - Desired Outcome
Increase the reliability of some of the company assets supporting the Growth and Fulfillment teams. Decrease the complexity of our cloud footprint and move "production" assets out of Azure so that they are all in GCP an can be monitored with our standard tools.
Key Results
- Migrate the remaining assets in Azure to GCP:
- dev.gitlab.org
- Subscription management app (customers.gitlab.com)
- Last remnants of handbook preview apps
-
Migrate all systems to using Google Secrets Manager from GKMS and Chef Vault
-
Create a way to limit the number of non-infrastructure GitLab team members who need access to the rails and db-consoles. Take the current number from 80 to 20.
